“We will empower women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) with the skills and tools in key service sectors like IT, healthcare, education, retail and tourism with an aim to increase their income.”
SHG women are increasingly being skilled into service and technology roles: the Namo Drone Didi central-sector scheme (Rs 1,261 crore; equipping ~14,500-15,000 women SHGs as drone service providers, operational guidelines released November 2024), the Bima Sakhi initiative (LIC insurance agents, late 2024), and the longer-running BC Sakhi (banking correspondents) and Krishi Sakhi (agri-extension) roles under DAY-NRLM. These advance the broad intent of moving SHG women into service-sector livelihoods, but a dedicated push across the specific sectors named in the pledge (IT, healthcare, education, retail, tourism) is only partially evidenced. Partial.
Operational guidelines for the Namo Drone Didi scheme released — equipping women SHGs as drone service providers with 80% central assistance (up to Rs 8 lakh per SHG).
