“We have enacted the long-awaited Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. We will systematically implement this to ensure representation for women in the Parliament and State Legislatures.”
The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (Constitution 106th Amendment Act) was enacted in September 2023, providing for one-third reservation of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies (including within SC/ST reserved seats). However, the reservation is not yet operative: under the Act it takes effect only after a delimitation exercise conducted following the first Census taken after 2026, which means it is widely expected to apply only from around the 2029 elections. The enactment is complete, but the substantive pledge to implement it and deliver women’s representation has not been realised. Pending.
Government reaffirms in Parliament that the women’s reservation will be ensured through delimitation carried out after the post-2026 Census; implementation remains pending.

We have established Shakti Desks (Women Help Desks) in police stations. We will further ensure their expansion for timely investigation and resolution of issues.
We will expand the existing health services focussed on the prevention and reduction of Anaemia, Breast Cancer, Cervical Cancer and Osteoporosis, ensuring a healthy life for women. We will launch a focussed initiative to eliminate cervical cancer.
