Make Gujarat an EV manufacturing and battery-technology hub
Bharatiya Janata Party · Gujarat Legislative Assembly Election 2022
Last updated 12 Oct 2026
What does this status mean?
Implementation is progressing towards the commitment.
Status describes delivery. Confidence describes how strong the available evidence is.
Original manifesto wording
“We will make Gujarat an EV Manufacturing Hub of India and a leader in battery storage technology by giving incentives to EV industries and startups.”
Our Assessment
Gujarat's EV policy predates the 2022 election, so the policy alone is a baseline. In August 2025, the Union government inaugurated manufacture and export of Suzuki's e VITARA battery-electric vehicle at Hansalpur and local production of hybrid battery electrodes at a Gujarat plant. These are operating industrial outputs. The broader claim of national leadership in battery-storage technology, and the reach of startup incentives, remain unmeasured.
The reasoning behind the verdict
Why this assessment?
Reviewed
01 · Delivery status
Why on track?
Actual vehicle and battery-component manufacturing after the election demonstrates implementation and progress toward the directional hub promise.
02 · Strength of evidence
Why high confidence?
A Union government release documents the facility, production milestone and export rollout; no full comparative battery-technology or incentive uptake data is available.
What would help us reassess?
The documents that could clarify delivery of this commitment.
- Annual EV and battery output and jobs from Gujarat plants
- Startups and EV manufacturers receiving state incentives
- Comparable battery-storage capacity and technology metrics across states
Status describes delivery. Confidence describes the evidence.
