What does this status mean?
Meaningful delivery has occurred, but the stated commitment is incomplete.
Status describes delivery. Confidence describes how strong the available evidence is.
Original manifesto wording
“We will transform our islands into premier global tourism destinations by developing world-class beach resorts, marine adventure activities, and robust coastal infrastructure, while preserving local ecosystems and promoting sustainable tourism.”
Our Assessment
Island development is being pursued through the holistic development of islands programme (coordinated via NITI Aayog), tourism and infrastructure investments in Lakshadweep (given a major push after the Prime Minister’s 2024 visit) and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, including the large Great Nicobar Island integrated development project (transhipment port, airport, township and power) which is under way but also faces environmental and ecological concerns. The pledge is in active progress, with sustainability trade-offs debated. Partial.
