Trust and evidence

Source Standards

ManifestoWatch uses a source hierarchy designed to keep promise records inspectable and evidence-led.

Source hierarchy

  1. Official manifesto PDFs and party websites for the original promise text and manifesto context.
  2. Government notifications, orders, budgets, and scheme dashboards for evidence of implementation, funding, or measurable progress.
  3. Parliament and Assembly questions where available, particularly when they provide official figures or implementation details.
  4. PIB and government press releases as official statements that should be checked against underlying documents and outcomes where possible.
  5. Credible institutional sources such as courts, auditors, statutory bodies, and recognised research institutions.
  6. Reputable journalism as supporting context, not primary proof when official evidence is needed.

Promise-level references

Every promise should ideally include the official manifesto source, relevant page number, and enough context for a reader to find the original commitment.

Archive links may be used where possible to preserve references when an original web page changes or becomes unavailable.

Assessment process

Source strength is one part of the broader status assessment process. See the methodology for status definitions and review principles.
