What does this status mean?
Meaningful delivery has occurred, but the stated commitment is incomplete.
Status describes delivery. Confidence describes how strong the available evidence is.
Original manifesto wording
“We will incentivise private sector investment in large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) infrastructure for fostering renewable energy integration, grid stability and resilience, ensuring a sustainable and reliable energy future for all.”
Our Assessment
Energy storage is being scaled to support renewable integration: the government approved Viability Gap Funding (VGF) schemes for Battery Energy Storage Systems totalling over 43 GWh, mandated energy-storage obligations, and 10 pumped-storage projects with a combined capacity of about 11,870 MW are under construction, alongside policies to attract private investment in BESS. Deployment is accelerating but large-scale storage capacity is still being built out. Partial.
