Free Rs 5 lakh accident insurance for all fishermen

The central Group Accident Insurance Scheme under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana provides exactly the promised benefit: Rs 5 lakh against death or permanent total disability, with the premium fully borne by central and state governments and no contribution from the fisher. The scheme operates across states including Manipur. The promised mechanism therefore exists and is available to Manipur fishers, but enrolment of all fishermen in Manipur specifically could not be verified, and the benefit is delivered via the central-plus-state GAIS rather than a standalone Manipur scheme.
