Seaweed cultivation is a priority activity under PMMSY and is being actively promoted: the Department of Fisheries approved seaweed projects worth about Rs 198 crore (2020-25), sanctioned 47,245 raft units and 63,881 monoline/tubenet units across states, established seaweed seed banks (Tamil Nadu, Daman & Diu, Lakshadweep), set up a Multipurpose Seaweed Park in Tamil Nadu, designated Lakshadweep as a Seaweed Cluster and CMFRI Mandapam as a Centre of Excellence. Production is rising toward a 1.12 million-tonne target. Active delivery; full income impact still building. Partial.
