Build on engineering and design strength to become a Product Nation

India is a major hub for engineering R&D and product-design services (with numerous global capability centres designing complex products in India), and policy support for converting this design strength into indigenous manufactured products is being pursued through PLI, design-linked incentives (e.g. in electronics/semiconductors) and brand-building efforts. However, the transition to a recognised "Product Nation" combining design and manufacturing at scale is aspirational and only partially evidenced. Partial, low confidence.
