Make India the largest producer of lab-grown diamonds

The government has supported the lab-grown diamond (LGD) sector through measures announced from the 2023-24 Budget onward, including a research grant to an IIT for developing indigenous LGD seed (machine and recipe) technology and reduced customs duty on LGD seeds to cut input costs, building on India’s dominant position in diamond cutting and polishing. India is a significant LGD producer and exporter, but a clearly evidenced position as the single largest global producer, as pledged, is not established, and dedicated follow-through has been limited.
