“We will strengthen Bharat’s position as the ‘Pharmacy of the World’ by boosting the manufacturing and research capacities of the pharmaceutical sector, especially APIs. We will expand Research Linked Incentive schemes, encouraging companies to invest in research for new drugs, chemical entities and new biological entities.”
India remains a leading global supplier of generic medicines and vaccines, and the government is strengthening this position through the PLI scheme for bulk drugs/Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (to reduce import dependence on key APIs and KSMs), the development of bulk drug parks in multiple states, and the PLI scheme for pharmaceuticals, along with measures to promote pharmaceutical R&D and innovation (including a scheme to promote research and innovation in pharma-medtech). Expansion of research-linked incentives for new drugs and biological entities is being pursued. As an open-ended commitment to "strengthen" the sector, it is in active progress rather than completed. Partial.
We will strengthen our traditional means including Yoga and Meditation, and also enhance the scope and coverage of mental health initiatives like Manas and Manodarpan.
We will strengthen the efforts being made to increase the training capacity for paramedics, technicians, pharmacists and nurses.
We will encourage and extend support to Bharatiya vaccine manufacturers and biopharma companies in various capacities to boost production and distribution and aim to reduce our timeline for vaccine manufacturing.
