“Bharat is a major automobile manufacturer. We will support the growth of the automobile industry and its transition to EV manufacturing. We will invest in establishing a nationwide EV charger infrastructure to encourage EV adoption.”
India is a major global automobile producer, and the EV transition is being supported through schemes such as PM E-DRIVE (about Rs 10,900 crore, replacing FAME, supporting electric two/three-wheelers, buses, ambulances and trucks), the PLI schemes for automobiles and advanced chemistry cell batteries, and dedicated support for public EV charging infrastructure under PM E-DRIVE and related programmes. EV adoption and charger rollout are accelerating, but a nationwide charging network and global leadership in EV manufacturing remain works in progress. Partial.
Cabinet approves PM E-DRIVE scheme (~Rs 10,900 crore) to accelerate EV adoption, including support for EV charging infrastructure.
