Our Assessment

high

Disease-elimination efforts have produced notable results: India was declared free of trachoma as a public health problem (announced in October 2024 by the WHO South-East Asia Region), and the kala-azar (visceral leishmaniasis) elimination target (fewer than 1 case per 10,000 at block level) was achieved across endemic blocks. The National TB Elimination Programme, with intensified case-finding (Ni-kshay) and the 100-day TB campaign, continues toward TB elimination, and lymphatic filariasis, measles-rubella and leprosy elimination drives are ongoing. Substantial progress, with TB, leprosy and LF elimination not yet fully achieved. Partial (strong progress).
