“We have connected over 2 lakh Gram Panchayats with BharatNet. We will expand BharatNet to every village with broadband, making high-speed internet accessible to all.”
BharatNet has extended broadband connectivity to about 2.14 lakh Gram Panchayats using optical fibre and satellite links, and the Amended BharatNet Programme is being implemented to provide and maintain reliable broadband down to the village level (including last-mile and FTTH connections), complemented by the 4G saturation programme (13,415 towers covering 19,901 villages). Connectivity is expanding toward universal village coverage, but the goal of broadband in every village is not yet fully achieved. Partial (strong action).
BharatNet reported connecting ~2.14 lakh Gram Panchayats via optical fibre and satellite links (Economic Survey 2025-26).
