“Sustained financial support under PM Fasal Bima Yojana to protect farmers against crop losses from natural calamities.”
On 1 January 2025 the Union Cabinet approved continuation of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and the Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme through 2025-26, with an overall outlay of Rs 69,515.71 crore (2021-22 to 2025-26) and a new Fund for Innovation and Technology (FIAT) of Rs 824.77 crore for tech-driven yield estimation (YES-TECH, WINDS). The government noted 88% of insured farmers are small and marginal. The pledge is being delivered; the current sanction runs to 2025-26, so continuation beyond that year is not yet formally approved.
From Kharif 2026, new add-on covers (Wild Animal Attack and Paddy Inundation) introduced under localised risk; states required to pre-deposit premium share via ESCROW from Kharif 2025 for timely claims.
