Our Assessment
Pearl farming is included among the alternative and climate-resilient livelihood activities supported under PMMSY (alongside sea-cage farming, seaweed cultivation and ornamental fish farming), as confirmed in a government reply in Parliament (March 2026). However, a dedicated, at-scale pearl-farming promotion programme with measurable uptake is only thinly evidenced. Partial, low confidence.
