“Building on the success of the International Year of Millets, we will promote Shree Anna (millets) for food security, nutrition and environmental sustainability and make Bharat a Global Millet Hub. We have ensured that Millet gets the global recognition and will now promote it as the global superfood. We will also focus on expanding its cultivation among small farmers, promote research and international marketing to underscore its health and sustainability advantages.”
Millet (Shree Anna) promotion has advanced substantially, building on the 2023 International Year of Millets. India is the largest global producer (about 38.4% of world output, FAO 2023), with domestic production rising to 180.15 lakh tonnes in 2024-25 and millet exports of about 89,165 tonnes (USD 37 million) in 2024-25. An Rs 800 crore Shree Anna sub-scheme (carved from PLISFPI) supports millet processing companies, and the Nutri-Cereals Sub-Mission under NFSM/Krishionnati Yojana supports cluster demonstrations, improved seeds and marketing, with APEDA backing branding and exports. The "global millet hub / superfood" pledge is being delivered through clear, ongoing programmes; full hub status is a continuing trajectory. Partial. (This entry merges the manifesto’s "Global Millet Hub" and "Millet as Super Food" commitments.)
