Help us verify“An urban livelihood scheme will be implemented on the lines of MGNREGA; like MGNREGA it will be made a law, and the urban unemployed will get the right to demand work.”
An urban livelihood scheme already exists, the Mukhya Mantri Shahri Ajeevika Guarantee Yojana, offering up to 120 days of urban wage employment, but it was launched by the previous BJP government in 2020 and is a scheme, not a statutory guarantee. The distinctive element of this promise was to make it a law giving the urban unemployed a legal right to demand work. No approved-source evidence was found that the present government enacted an urban employment guarantee Act. Recorded as pending: the non-statutory scheme operates, but the promised legal right-to-work has not been legislated. Budget: MMSAGY carried a modest allocation of about Rs 25 crore; no new statutory programme has been budgeted.
