Our Assessment

Gujarat registered 1,31,801 TB patients in 2025 according to state health-department data reported in March 2026. The state therefore did not achieve the promised TB-free outcome by its deadline. Detection, treatment and recovery remain important public-health work, but registration-target achievement or selected TB-free panchayats cannot establish statewide elimination. The deadline assessment does not imply that the TB-control programme stopped.

The reasoning behind the verdict

Why this assessment?

Reviewed

01 · Delivery status

Why broken?

The 2025 deadline passed with substantial continuing TB disease, so the time-bound outcome was missed.

02 · Strength of evidence

Why high confidence?

Dated reporting reproduces state health-department 2025 case data; patient registration is distinct from an incidence estimate but demonstrates continuing disease.

What would help us reassess?

  • Latest independent TB burden estimates and elimination certification
