Attract ₹1,000 crore for smart farming and IoT-based farm insights
Bharatiya Janata Party · Gujarat Legislative Assembly Election 2022
Last updated 10 Oct 2026
What does this status mean?
Meaningful delivery has occurred, but the stated commitment is incomplete.
Status describes delivery. Confidence describes how strong the available evidence is.
Original manifesto wording
“We will aim to attract investments of ₹1,000 crore to develop a smart farming ecosystem based on new technologies like the Internet of Things, which will provide insights into soil quality, water levels, plant diseases, temperature, etc.”
Our Assessment
Gujarat has introduced a smart and precision farming support component for IoT devices through its official iKhedut portal. The portal opened applications for this component in May–June 2026, alongside Kisan Drone support. That is a concrete step toward farm technology adoption. However, an application window does not establish how many sensors were installed or whether farmers are receiving the promised soil, water, disease and temperature insights. I could not verify ₹1,000 crore of investment attracted specifically for this smart-farming ecosystem. The promise is Partially Done.
The reasoning behind the verdict
Why this assessment?
Reviewed
01 · Delivery status
Why partially done?
The state iKhedut portal lists a Smart & Precision Farming (IoT device) component and opened an application period in 2026. This is direct implementation activity. The records reviewed do not report realised ₹1,000-crore investment, numbers of working devices or use of the promised field insights at scale. An active scheme supports Partially Done while the investment and service outcome remain unverified.
The ₹1,000-crore figure is an investment-attraction target, not a verified budget allocation. Applications or listed device prices are not equivalent to installed, working IoT systems.
02 · Strength of evidence
Why medium confidence?
The government portal directly documents the IoT component and application window. Confidence is Medium because the public record reviewed does not supply investment totals or audited deployment and use data.
What would help us reassess?
The documents that could clarify delivery of this commitment.
- Project-wise realised investment toward the ₹1,000-crore target
- Number and locations of IoT devices installed and operational
- Evidence farmers receive soil, water, disease and temperature advisories
- Scheme beneficiary and outcome data
Status describes delivery. Confidence describes the evidence.
