Provide neonatal intensive-care units in every government hospital
Bharatiya Janata Party · Gujarat Legislative Assembly Election 2022
Last updated 15 Oct 2026
What does this status mean?
Meaningful delivery has occurred, but the stated commitment is incomplete.
Status describes delivery. Confidence describes how strong the available evidence is.
Original manifesto wording
“We will establish the Nand Gopal Wards constituting neonatal intensive care units in every government hospital in the state.”
Our Assessment
Gujarat's 2025–26 state review documents 61 Special Newborn Care Units at medical-college, district and sub-district hospitals, with newborn admissions reported in 2024–25 and 2025–26. Operating neonatal care counts toward delivery regardless of the Nand Gopal name. The report does not establish coverage of every government hospital or distinguish all pre-existing units from additions after the election. The 61-unit network is therefore contextual evidence, not a percentage-complete bar.
The reasoning behind the verdict
Why this assessment?
Reviewed
01 · Delivery status
Why partially done?
A functioning neonatal-care network is verified, but universal hospital coverage and current-term additions are not.
02 · Strength of evidence
Why medium confidence?
Relevant delivery evidence exists, but complete scope, coverage or independent verification remains limited.
What would help us reassess?
The documents that could clarify delivery of this commitment.
- Hospital-by-hospital neonatal ICU availability
- Commissioning dates, trained staff and equipment readiness
Status describes delivery. Confidence describes the evidence.
