Our Assessment

high

Per the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban, May 2026), about 155 lakh MT of legacy waste was bio-mined across Ghazipur, Okhla and Bhalswa between November 2022 and December 2025 (₹776.47 crore under SBM-U 2.0), cutting pile heights by 30-40 m at Okhla and Bhalswa and 10-15 m at Ghazipur. Reclamation timelines are Okhla by July 2026, Bhalswa by October 2026 and Ghazipur by December 2027. The mountains are being reduced but not yet eliminated, and Baansera-style redevelopment is at the planning stage.
