Our Assessment

Protected: the Union Cabinet approved a Rs 11,440 crore revival package for RINL / Visakhapatnam Steel Plant in January 2025 (Rs 10,300 crore fresh equity plus Rs 1,140 crore working-capital conversion), averting privatisation; RINL returned to profit (Rs 54 crore in January 2026). Long-term sustainability (captive iron-ore mines) remains debated.
