What does this status mean?
Meaningful delivery has occurred, but the stated commitment is incomplete.
Status describes delivery. Confidence describes how strong the available evidence is.
Original manifesto wording
“We have reached 44% of our electricity generation capacity from non-fossil fuel sources. We will continue on this path and increase the share of non-fossil fuel sources in line with Panchamrit. We will work towards achieving net zero emissions by 2070.”
Our Assessment
India’s non-fossil share of installed electricity capacity crossed 50 per cent in June 2025 - five years ahead of its 2030 NDC target - and continues to rise (non-fossil capacity around 262 GW), consistent with the Panchamrit commitments. The net-zero-by-2070 target is a long-horizon goal on which interim progress (renewables, efficiency, green hydrogen) is being made. Partial (strong action). (Note: closely related to the renewable-energy-transition (500 GW) commitment in the Energy Security section; this entry reflects the Panchamrit/net-zero framing.)
