Status describes delivery. Confidence describes how strong the available evidence is.
Original manifesto wording
“We will intensify existing efforts to ensure elimination of TB, Leprosy, Lymphatic Filariasis, Measles and Rubella, Trachoma, and Kala Azar by facilitating timely testing and access to medicines.”
Our Assessment
Disease-elimination efforts have produced notable results: India was declared free of trachoma as a public health problem (announced in October 2024 by the WHO South-East Asia Region), and the kala-azar (visceral leishmaniasis) elimination target (fewer than 1 case per 10,000 at block level) was achieved across endemic blocks. The National TB Elimination Programme, with intensified case-finding (Ni-kshay) and the 100-day TB campaign, continues toward TB elimination, and lymphatic filariasis, measles-rubella and leprosy elimination drives are ongoing. Substantial progress, with TB, leprosy and LF elimination not yet fully achieved. Partial (strong progress).
