The government launched a free-electricity scheme for weavers effective 1 April 2026, providing 200 free units per month to handloom weavers and 500 to powerloom weavers - matching the manifesto figures - benefiting about 93,000 handloom and 11,488 powerloom families, with roughly Rs 150 crore allocated annually. The free-power commitment is delivered; the separate handloom-products GST-reimbursement element is not yet confirmed.
