Expand the tourism sector to create new employment opportunities

Bharatiya Janata Party · Lok Sabha General Election 2024

Last updated 1 Jun 2026

Our rich cultural heritage is the centre of global attraction. Our efforts at improving connectivity, building better infrastructure and reaching out to the world has significantly increased tourist footfall. We will expand the range of programmes to further expand the tourism sector and increase employment opportunities.

Our Assessment

medium

Tourism expansion programmes have been scaled: Budget 2025-26 allocated about Rs 2,541 crore to tourism, launched development of the top 50 tourist destinations in partnership with states in "challenge mode", provided Rs 3,295.8 crore in interest-free loans for 40 projects across 23 states, continued Swadesh Darshan 2.0, and offered Mudra loans for homestays alongside e-visa and UDAN connectivity. Foreign tourist arrivals are recovering (around 56 lakh up to August 2025) and the sector remains a large employer. The pledge to expand tourism programmes and employment is being acted on; attributable job outcomes are still building. Partial.
