Last updated 1 Jun 2026

With PLI and Make in India programmes, manufacturing has emerged as a major economic sector with good success in electronics, defence, mobile, automobile, etc. We will continue to work towards making Bharat a global manufacturing hub and enhance employment in this crucial sector.

Our Assessment

high

The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme (Rs 1.91-1.97 lakh crore outlay across 14 sectors) has driven substantial manufacturing investment and jobs: as of 31 December 2025 the Commerce Ministry reported over Rs 2.16 lakh crore in investments, Rs 20.41 lakh crore in incremental production and 14.39 lakh direct and indirect jobs, with electronics, automobiles and pharmaceuticals leading. The National Manufacturing Mission (Budget 2025-26) targets raising manufacturing’s share of GDP to 25%, and an Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme (Rs 99,446 crore) targets 3.5 crore jobs. The "global manufacturing hub" and employment-enhancement pledge is advancing strongly but is open-ended and ongoing. Partial.
