Our Assessment

medium

The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) was launched at the G20 Summit in New Delhi in September 2023 via an MoU among India, the US, EU, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, France, Germany and Italy, envisaging multimodal rail, shipping, energy and data connectivity from India to Europe through the Gulf. India continues to advance it diplomatically (including at G7/G20 and bilateral summits). However, momentum slowed after the outbreak of the Gaza conflict, a coordinating structure is still being shaped, and the corridor is far from operational. The pledge is in active progress but not realised. Partial.
