“We have emphasised the education of tribal children with a target of setting up 740 Eklavya Model Residential Schools. We will expedite the construction and operationalization of the remaining schools.”
The full target of 740 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) has been approved/sanctioned and construction is ongoing, with the EMRS construction budget raised sharply (e.g. about Rs 6,399 crore in 2024-25) and recruitment of around 38,800 teachers and staff announced. However, the number functional has lagged the target: roughly 401 were functional in early 2023 and about 405 by mid-2024, and a parliamentary committee flagged risk to the 2025-26 deadline. The pledge to expedite construction/operationalisation is in progress, not complete. Partial.
Tribal Affairs Ministry confirms construction of all 740 EMRS approved for ~3.5 lakh ST students; build-out continuing.
