Increase non-fossil fuel capacity in line with Panchamrit (net zero 2070)

Bharatiya Janata Party · Lok Sabha General Election 2024

Last updated 5 Jun 2026

We have reached 44% of our electricity generation capacity from non-fossil fuel sources. We will continue on this path and increase the share of non-fossil fuel sources in line with Panchamrit. We will work towards achieving net zero emissions by 2070.

Our Assessment

high

India’s non-fossil share of installed electricity capacity crossed 50 per cent in June 2025 - five years ahead of its 2030 NDC target - and continues to rise (non-fossil capacity around 262 GW), consistent with the Panchamrit commitments. The net-zero-by-2070 target is a long-horizon goal on which interim progress (renewables, efficiency, green hydrogen) is being made. Partial (strong action). (Note: closely related to the renewable-energy-transition (500 GW) commitment in the Energy Security section; this entry reflects the Panchamrit/net-zero framing.)
