Last updated 4 Jun 2026

To move away from punishment to justice, and improve the current conviction rate in the country, we will launch a National Forensics Mission to strengthen the forensic infrastructure.

Forensic infrastructure is being expanded, reinforced by the new criminal laws - the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita makes forensic investigation mandatory for offences carrying seven years imprisonment or more - driving demand for forensic capacity. The National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) is expanding campuses nationally to train manpower, and central/state forensic laboratories are being strengthened. However, a formally launched, distinctly named National Forensics Mission with a comprehensive funded infrastructure rollout is only partially evidenced. Partial.
