Strengthen RERA and facilitate middle-class home ownership

Bharatiya Janata Party · Lok Sabha General Election 2024

Last updated 31 May 2026

We will strengthen the RERA act which has helped make the real estate sector in Bharat more transparent and citizen friendly than ever before. We will work with the state governments to facilitate home ownership for middle-class parivar jan through comprehensive measures including cost reduction in construction and registration, regulatory reforms like enabling automatic approvals for standard housing designs, among others.

Our Assessment

medium

RERA enforcement has been strengthened — by mid-2025 nearly 1.5 lakh projects and about 1 lakh agents were registered and roughly 1.5 lakh consumer complaints resolved, with states integrating into a unified national portal and stricter pre-launch compliance. However, the middle-class-specific measures pledged (cost reduction in construction and registration, automatic approvals for standard housing designs) are largely state-subject reforms and remain uneven across states. Partial: the regulatory strengthening is real, but the consumer-facing cost/approval reforms are not yet broadly delivered.
