Our Assessment

high

Significant expansion action taken on both urban and rural fronts post-election. Cabinet approved PMAY-G extension (Aug 2024) adding 2 crore rural houses with Rs. 3.06 lakh crore outlay through 2029. PMAY-Urban 2.0 launched Sep 2024 targeting 1 crore urban families with Rs. 10 lakh crore investment. As of Dec 2025, rural side has sanctioned 3.86 crore and completed 2.92 crore houses. Urban 2.0 has sanctioned ~8.56 lakh houses across states. Expansion is clearly underway but the revised target of 4.95 crore rural + 1 crore urban houses is a multi-year effort through 2029 — still far from every garib parivar. Marked partial: policy and budgets expanded, but delivery at scale is ongoing.
