“We will elevate the quality of education by expanding top educational institutions and upgrading universities to global standards. We will introduce more IITs, IIMs, AIIMS and other such institutes. We will launch internship programmes to blend academic and practical skills.”
The internship pledge is delivered as the PM Internship Scheme, announced in Budget 2024-25 (Rs 2,000 crore, targeting 5 crore youth over five years in two phases), with a live 2026 application cycle (23,000+ seats) and a March 2026 revamp adding higher stipends and new sectors. Institutional expansion is underway: Budget 2025 announced IIT seat expansion (including 6,500 new seats at newer IITs, phased over five years) plus other capacity additions. Partial: programmes launched and scaling, with multi-year targets still in progress.

We will ensure that no student of the OBC, SC and ST families are deprived of higher education due to affordability by expanding existing scholarships for meritorious students.
We have emphasised the education of tribal children with a target of setting up 740 Eklavya Model Residential Schools. We will expedite the construction and operationalization of the remaining schools.
