Our Assessment

high

Sea-safety technology for fishers is being rolled out under PMMSY: a National Rollout Plan to equip about 1,00,000 marine fishing vessels across 13 coastal states/UTs with indigenously developed transponders (budget around Rs 364 crore, provided free to fishermen), paired with a Vessel Communication and Support System that delivers real-time alerts, weather updates and vessel tracking even beyond mobile-network range. The system was credited with broadcasting mass alerts and aiding timely evacuation during Cyclone DANA. Installation is ongoing toward the one-lakh-vessel target, so the pledge is in active delivery. Partial (strong action).
