Our Assessment

high

Nuclear expansion is being pursued through a dedicated Nuclear Energy Mission (announced in Budget 2025-26 with an outlay of about Rs 20,000 crore) focused on indigenous Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and Bharat Small Reactors for industrial decarbonisation, alongside the proposed SHANTI/amendments to open the sector and NPCIL-NTPC (ASHVINI) joint ventures to accelerate capacity. New reactors are under construction to expand installed nuclear capacity. The expansion pledge is being actively delivered, with SMR deployment still at the development stage. Partial (strong action).
