To reserve jobs for locals, the Cabinet cleared the Karnataka State Employment of Local Candidates in Industries, Factories and Other Establishments Bill, 2024 (mandating 50 percent of management and around 70-75 percent of non-management posts for locals). After strong industry backlash, the Chief Minister put the bill on hold in July 2024, to be revisited - it was not enacted or implemented. Concrete legislative action initiated, then paused.
