Expand vehicle scrappage and green ship recycling in Gujarat
Bharatiya Janata Party · Gujarat Legislative Assembly Election 2022
Last updated 12 Oct 2026
What does this status mean?
The term is active and there is no evidence of action or reversal.
Status describes delivery. Confidence describes how strong the available evidence is.
Original manifesto wording
“We will make Gujarat the Recycling Hub of India by unleashing its potential in vehicle scrappage and green ship recycling.”
Our Assessment
Alang-Sosiya was already a major ship-recycling centre long before the 2022 election. The Union government's July 2026 figures on its active plots and capacity describe that existing base, not necessarily new green recycling delivery. Gujarat investment material promotes a vehicle-scrappage ecosystem, but the reviewed sources do not provide a comparable post-election increase in operational scrappage or green-certified ship recycling.
The reasoning behind the verdict
Why this assessment?
Reviewed
01 · Delivery status
Why pending?
The pre-election recycling base and investment promotion do not establish a measurable post-election expansion attributable to this promise.
02 · Strength of evidence
Why low confidence?
Official sources verify existing capacity and proposals, while the promised incremental vehicle and green-ship recycling outcomes remain unclear.
What would help us reassess?
The documents that could clarify delivery of this commitment.
- Year-by-year Gujarat registered vehicle-scrapping facilities, vehicles processed and investment since 2022
- Post-election ship-recycling tonnage and independently verified green-certified facilities at Alang
Status describes delivery. Confidence describes the evidence.

Promise Timeline
The Union government described Alang-Sosiya's existing recycling capacity; this cannot by itself demonstrate new green-recycling progress since the election.
