Launch Gujarat Olympics Mission and build world-class sports infrastructure
Bharatiya Janata Party · Gujarat Legislative Assembly Election 2022
Last updated 18 Oct 2026
What does this status mean?
Implementation is progressing towards the commitment.
Status describes delivery. Confidence describes how strong the available evidence is.
Original manifesto wording
“We will launch Gujarat Olympics Mission and create world-class sports infrastructure with an aim to host the Olympic Games in 2036.”
Our Assessment
The ₹825-crore Naranpura sports complex opened in September 2025, completing a project begun before the manifesto. On 7 October 2026, IOA confirmed continued engagement with the IOC around an Amdavad-centred 2036 ambition. These are substantive infrastructure and planning milestones. Ahmedabad's confirmed 2030 Commonwealth Games hosting is a separate event. The wider venue network remains incomplete, and participation in the Olympic host-selection process is not an award of hosting rights.
The reasoning behind the verdict
Why this assessment?
Reviewed
01 · Delivery status
Why on track?
An opened international-standard venue and continuing Amdavad-centred host-process engagement demonstrate substantive progress toward this long-term aim.
02 · Strength of evidence
Why high confidence?
Primary Union, IOA and Commonwealth Sport records document concrete milestones; they do not establish completed Olympic infrastructure or 2036 hosting rights.
What would help us reassess?
The documents that could clarify delivery of this commitment.
- Venue-by-venue operating dates, certification, expenditure and remaining works
- Subsequent IOA/IOC host-selection milestones and eventual decision
Status describes delivery. Confidence describes the evidence.

View sourceIndia submitted a letter of intent to the International Olympic Committee for the 2036 Games. This starts a candidature process; hosting rights were not awarded.
View sourceThe foundation stone for the Naranpura sports complex was laid before the 2022 manifesto. Its later completion is counted as delivery during the term, not as a project first initiated by the pledge.
