Transform government schools on the Delhi model

Reviewed 29 September 2026. The Tribune reported that Schools of Eminence at Kidwai Nagar and Millerganj-Dholewal in Ludhiana were inaugurated on 2 August after delays. The report describes 40 classrooms at Kidwai Nagar and upgraded digital classrooms and drinking-water facilities at Millerganj-Dholewal. These are concrete infrastructure improvements. Retained as partial: two upgraded campuses do not establish that government schools across Punjab now match private schools, and this review does not infer statewide learning outcomes from inaugurations or admission demand. Historical assessment (2026-06-07, recorded status: partial; retained verbatim and may be superseded by the latest review): 118 government senior secondary schools were designated Schools of Eminence (around 60 reported operational by early 2026), the education budget was raised from about ₹12,657 crore (2021-22) to ₹19,279 crore (2026-27), and over two lakh applications were received for Schools of Eminence/residential-school admissions. The flagship Schools of Eminence are a concrete deliverable, but transforming all of Punjab's roughly 19,200 government schools remains an ongoing, partial process.
