Our Assessment

medium

The National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP, launched 2019, Rs 13,343 crore) runs mass six-monthly FMD vaccination of the entire susceptible livestock population and an intensive brucellosis control programme (vaccinating bovine female calves), with crores of vaccinations administered (e.g. 24.23 lakh FMD doses by July in 2025 in one state report). The programme targets FMD control by 2025 and eventual eradication by 2030. However, FMD has not yet been eliminated — which is the specific bar set in the pledge — and timelines have extended. Brucellosis control is progressing. Marked partial: a large vaccination campaign is in place, but elimination is not achieved.
