Our Assessment

high

The Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM), in place since 2014, is actively delivering on indigenous-breed conservation and productivity. The Cabinet approved revised RGM funding in March 2025 (additional Rs 1,000 crore, total Rs 3,400 crore for 2021-22 to 2025-26), and the mission deploys sex-sorted semen technology (Gausort, 2024), IVF labs (22 set up), strengthened semen stations, the National Kamdhenu Breeding Centre and the National Milk Recording Programme to conserve and propagate elite indigenous animals. The protection/productivity pledge is being actively pursued; preserving genetic diversity across all native breeds is an ongoing effort. Partial.
