Our Assessment

high

Air connectivity has expanded substantially: the number of operational airports more than doubled from 74 in 2014 to about 159-160 by 2024-25, and the UDAN regional-connectivity scheme has operationalised 600+ routes connecting around 90-95 airports, heliports and water aerodromes. In 2026 the Cabinet approved a Modified UDAN (Rs 28,840 crore) to develop 100 more airports and 200 helipads over eight years, and new greenfield airports (e.g. Noida/Jewar and Navi Mumbai) are being operationalised. The development pledge is in active delivery, with rollout ongoing. Partial (strong action).
