Welfare package for 1984 riot victims (widow pension, concessional loans, scholarships)

Bharatiya Janata Party · Delhi Legislative Assembly Election 2025

Last updated 6 Jun 2026

We will launch a welfare package for the victims of the 1984 riots, under which pension for widows will be increased from ₹2,500 to ₹5,000, loans will be provided at concessional rates to create self-employment opportunities, and scholarships will be provided for school and university students.

Our Assessment

medium

The government has acted on 1984-victim rehabilitation: a compassionate-employment policy for victims’ dependants was approved in November 2025 and appointment letters were distributed to 125+ families through 2025. However, the specific package components in this commitment — widow pension raised from ₹2,500 to ₹5,000, concessional self-employment loans and student scholarships — have not been separately verified.
