“We will strengthen and amend the law against Love Jihad, with a provision for ten years of rigorous imprisonment for those convicted.”
Our Assessment
The promise was to strengthen and amend the state law referred to in the manifesto as love jihad, with imprisonment up to ten years. The state government implemented the Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Act, 2022, and the official CM page says those found guilty may face up to 10 years of imprisonment. Indian Express also reported Assembly passage of the stricter conversion Bill in December 2022. The verdict is fulfilled for the law-amendment component. Budget status: statutory amendment; no budget allocation required or found.
