Our Assessment

Crop diversification is being supported through a combination of production programmes and price-support mechanisms. PM-AASHA provides MSP-backed procurement for pulses and oilseeds, while the ₹10,103 crore National Mission on Edible Oils–Oilseeds and ₹11,440 crore Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses seek to expand cultivation and production of these crops. Under the Pulses Mission, assured procurement of tur, urad and masoor is provided through NAFED/NCCF. Oilseed cultivation increased from 301.92 lakh hectares in 2023-24 to 304.40 lakh hectares in 2024-25, while production rose from 396.69 to 429.89 lakh tonnes. Implementation remains multi-year, with further acreage and production targets extending to 2030-31.
