Our Assessment
India has been steadily expanding its diplomatic footprint, opening new missions in recent years (with a notable push across Africa) and seeking to enlarge the Indian Foreign Service cadre to match its growing global role and consular workload. This is an open-ended, incremental commitment that is being acted on rather than a defined, completable target, and India’s mission network remains smaller than those of comparable major powers.
